Surety Bonds

Business Insurance

Bonds written alongside the rest of your coverage.

A bond is not insurance for you. It is a guarantee to someone else that you will do what you promised. Getting one issued quickly is usually the difference between starting a job and losing it.

The Basics

A bond protects the other party, not you.

With an insurance policy, the carrier pays your loss. With a surety bond, the surety pays a third party if you fail to perform, and then comes to you for reimbursement. That difference is why bonds are underwritten on your financials and track record rather than on risk of accident.

Most Oregon businesses encounter bonds through licensing. Contractors need one to hold a CCB license. Others come up job by job on bid, performance and payment bonds.

  • Oregon CCB contractor license bonds
  • Bid, performance and payment bonds for projects
  • License and permit bonds for regulated trades
  • Written alongside your liability so it comes from one place

What Underwriters Look At

  • • Personal and business credit
  • • Years in the trade
  • • Financial statements on larger bonds
  • • Completed project history

Common Questions

Surety Bond FAQs

How fast can I get a bond issued?
Small license bonds are often same day. Larger performance bonds need financial review and take longer, so start before you bid rather than after you win.
Does credit affect whether I can get bonded?
Yes, particularly on smaller bonds where personal credit carries most of the weight. Weaker credit usually means a higher rate rather than a flat decline, and there are markets built for exactly that situation.
What size CCB bond do I need?
It depends on your license endorsement and business size. The CCB publishes current amounts and they change periodically, so confirm the requirement and we will write to match it.
If a claim is paid, do I owe the money back?
Yes. That is the core difference from insurance. The surety pays the harmed party and then seeks reimbursement from you under the indemnity agreement you signed.

Need a bond before you can bid?

Send us the requirement and we will tell you what it takes to get issued.
