The Basics

Homeowners coverage on a boat or ATV is thinner than you think.

A homeowners policy may include a small amount of coverage for a boat or an off-road vehicle, but the limits are low and the liability protection often disappears the moment the vehicle leaves your property. That is precisely when you are using it.

Separate policies cover physical damage, liability, and the situations specific to each type: a boat sinking at the dock, an RV you are living in on a trip, an ATV on public land.

  • Physical damage on and off the trailer
  • Liability when you are away from home
  • Roadside assistance and towing built for size and weight
  • Layup or seasonal pricing on some policies

Common Questions

Recreational Vehicle FAQs

Isn’t my boat covered by my homeowners policy?
Only in a limited way, usually a small physical damage limit for small craft, with liability that may not extend away from your property. Anything with meaningful value or horsepower needs its own policy.
Do I need coverage while the RV is parked all winter?
Yes. Fire, theft, storm and rodent damage all happen in storage. Some carriers offer reduced layup pricing for months you are not on the road.
Are ATVs covered on public land?
Homeowners coverage generally stops at your property line. If you ride the dunes or forest roads, you need an off-road policy with liability that travels with you.
Can I put all of these on one policy?
Often several can be combined with the same carrier, which simplifies billing and can earn a multi-unit discount. Tell us everything you own and we will structure it.

We will make sure it is actually covered when you use it.
